About the event
Our woodlands are under increasing pressure from the multiple threats of the highest deer populations since records began, combined with tree diseases and decades-long under management. And yet they have the potential to be important ecological hotspots on our farms, reservoirs of life that can spill back into our farmed landscapes as we seek to regenerate them.
At this event we will debate the merits of the different approaches to woodland management, including how to fence and for how long, and how different methods based on small compartments stack up against wider felling in light of deer pressure.
Forestry Commission experts David Hooton (Deer Officer) and Colin Horlock (Land Use Advisor) will be discussing the grants available to manage, plant and fence woodland, including tree health grants and grants for deer stalking and processing.
We will enjoy refreshments before the walk and lunch together afterwards. There will be a degree…
