About the event

Join FWAG East for a farm walk at Strawberry Hill, Bedfordshire, where a large-scale scrub mosaic has developed since the mid-1990s. This mix of scrub, grassland and young woodland now supports an impressive range of birds, including Nightingale, Turtle Dove, Grasshopper Warbler and Cuckoo, alongside many other song birds and wildlife that rely on this important habitat.

This will be a special spring walk at dusk, with the chance to hear the song of the Nightingale, now lost from much of eastern England. We’ll also discuss how quickly scrub habitats can be created on farms with relatively little intervention and cost. While few farms can do this at the scale seen at Strawberry Hill, every farm can find space in corners or less productive areas, and by linking these habitats across the landscape, we can help bring the species that thrive in scrub back.
