Get involved in the Big Farmland Bird Count 2015!
This year the Big Farmland Bird Count takes place between the 7th and 15th February. FWAG is inviting farmers to take 30 minutes out of their day to record the species and number of birds seen on one particular area of the farm. Run in conjunction with the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) and Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF), last year’s ‘count’ saw more than 500 farmers take part and a total of 116 species recorded.
The event helps determine how the farmland birds are faring and encourages farmers to see how their efforts to provide suitable habitats are fundamental to the survival of these species. It also presents an opportunity to highlight to the public the great work undertaken by farmers to reverse the decline of farmland bird numbers.
Following the success of the 2014 Big Farmland Bird Count, we would love as many of our FWAG member farmers as possible to get involved in 2015. Register your interest and find out how to take part by clicking here.
