Farm Business Updates 2015
Following the success of previous years, this popular series of free-to-attend events will take place across our region again this January and February.
These events are a one-stop-shop for the latest information on farming and the environment, covering issues ranging from agri-environment, greening and cross compliance to water protection and conservation. They are co-organised by CLA East, Campaign for the Farmed Environment, NFU, Defra, Farming Advice Service, Environment Agency, Essex and Suffolk Water, Anglian Water, and Affinity Water.
This year’s keynote speaker is Philip Wright, who has been involved in the development of machinery for cultivation and tillage for over 30 years, forming Wright Resolutions Limited to provide environmentally friendly solutions and advice for the agricultural industry.
Philip’s presentation will be entitled ‘Your machinery choices, adjustments and some cover crops benefits’, and will focus on lessons learned from his soil husbandry visits and on-farm discussions on machinery choices. He will also cover maintenance (setting-up kit and adjustments in field to improve cultivations, soil structure, establishment and yields) and cover crops (provision of better soil aggregates, improve following crop establishment and improve infiltration of rainfall, and resilience to drought or excess rain).
There will also be presentations from your local CFE, Environment Agency, water company, Farming Advice Service, and Rural Development Programme for England representatives. They will update you on current information regarding CAP reform including Greening, the new Agri-Environment Scheme, Cross Compliance and the Basic Payment Scheme. The importance of water resource protection at a local level and the grants and funding streams available to farmers and land managers will also be covered.
All speakers will be available to talk to you on a one-to-one basis following the presentations, giving you the opportunity to discuss what’s important to you. BASIS and NRoSO points are available for these events.
