Make the 2017 Big Farmland Bird Count Even Bigger!
The fourth annual Big Farmland Bird Count takes place between Friday 3rd February and Sunday 12th February 2017. It’s a great way to find out about the birds you have on your farm and see how your conservation efforts are paying off.
Farmers, gamekeepers and landowners are crucial to the survival of many farmland bird species and the BFBC is an opportunity to demonstrate the positive effect of farmland management. We urge you to go out on the farm – for just half an hour between Friday 3rd and Sunday 12th February – and record the birds you see.
You may also like to come to one of the bird identification training days we run each year in preparation for the count. Each day includes lunch and will feature a presentation delivered by a FWAG expert in farmland birds and participants will be able to go out on a farm to do some bird identification. A free ID Guide will also be provided with a focus on birds that are harder to identify:
- 17 January 2017 at 11:00am – Black Notley Hall, Braintree, Essex
- 24 January 2017 at 11:00am – Thrift Farm, Royston, Hertfordshire
Booking online via the GWCT is the simplest and quickest way to secure your place.

This year the GWCT will be launching an exciting new online tool to make it quicker and easier for you to record your count. It will also enable you to plot trends and compare your farm with others in your region. For more information visit this dedicated page on the GWCT website.
